Formation of Driveway Potholes and Ruts

Over time gravel driveways and roads develop potholes and ruts that make driving on them not so enjoyable. Typically, daily wear and tear of car traffic and erosion are the main factors that cause these driveway issues. As potholes start to form, water will begin to fill them which will only accelerate the positive feedback loop. If these potholes and ruts are not addressed when they appear, they will only grow in size, resulting in a rough driving surface and overtime costly repairs to your car's suspension system.

Gravel Driveway Grading

Over the years we have been in business we have developed a tried and true method for repairing gravel driveways, roads, and lots. We first start by scrapping the compacted gravel surface of the driveway to fill in any low spots and produce a solid, smooth surface. After all the potholes and imperfections are removed, the driveway can then be graded so that water runs off correctly. Depending on the amount of gravel material present, we can grade and resurface the driveway without having to bring in any additional materials such as "Crush and Run", #67 Stone, or Pea Gravel.

In circumstances where there is not enough base material on the gravel driveway or road to properly grade it, ABC otherwise known as "Crush and Run" would be brought in. Using this material we would build back up the base of the road to where we can get a proper crown installed. Once the desired thickness is achieved, the road will be graded and finally finished.

Top-Dressing Gravel Driveways & Roads

After grading gravel driveways and roads, we always recommend going over the fresh new road with a layer of #57 Washed Stone. #57 Stone is a 1/2-sized blue-colored stone that is perfect for improving the appearance of driveways and walkways. A fresh layer of #57 Stone produces a crisp new look that ties together the driveway well.
